CarePoint Solutions

Founded in 2012, CarePoint Solutions designs, develops and commercializes products that improve the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic testing.

With medical errors now the number #3 cause of fatalities in the US, and with diagnostic error associated with a majority of those errors, healthcare providers have a moral, ethical, legal, and financial responsibility to improve testing processes to ensure quality outcomes. CarePoint Solutions is dedicated to delivering the tools and resources needed by healthcare providers to accomplish this goal.

CarePoint’s Controls Division develops and commercializes innovative quality control solutions that are more effective at error detection and increase the reliability of diagnostic test results.

As diagnostic technology experiences explosive growth, and as more and more testing is performed away from central labs and into the clinical environment, there is a need for more convenient and more effective quality control solutions. CarePoint supplies QC materials to federally-approved US proficiency testing organizations, international External Quality Assessment Schemes, and to major diagnostic test manufacturers via private-label supply agreements.

CarePoint’s Software Division is focused on leveraging information technology and developing new approaches to quality management that drive efficiencies, reduce errors, and improve patient outcomes. The company’s flagship product, Pro-QCP, represents a first-of-its-kind software solution that helps ensure regulatory compliance and implements a continuous quality improvement process for in vitro diagnostic testing.

We look forward to working with you to reduce diagnostic error, and to ensure the best possible outcomes for the patients under your care.

A recent report from the Institute of Medicine is quite sobering. The report asserts that diagnostic error is underreported, is growing at an alarming rate, and is not being addressed:

The average hospital pays out hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in malpractice awards and settlements - the majority are associated with diagnostic error

The largest malpractice awards are associated with diagnostic error

A quarter-million patients die in US hospitals each year due to preventable medical errors - 10% of those are attributed to diagnostic error

Up to 17% of adverse events in hospitals can be traced to diagnostic error

Most adults in the US will be impacted at least once in their lifetime by diagnostic error, oftentimes with devastating consequences

5% of U.S. adults who seek outpatient care each year experience a diagnostic error

Diagnostic error is increasing as healthcare delivery increases in complexity (e.g., point of care testing)
